The example of the priest St. Andrew Dung-Lac, and his 126 Companion Martyrs, were recalled this morning by Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization Peoples during the encounter he had with the priests.
Cardinal Filoni in Vietnam: "a living Church," distinguished from "the steadfast Faith of the Vietnamese faithful"
After mentioning the 50th anniversary of the conciliar Decree "Ad Gentes" concerning the Missionary Activity of the Church, Cardinal Filoni recalled that the first seeds of the Faith were brought to Vietnam by the Jesuits, the Fathers of the Foreign Mission Society of Paris, the Dominicans, the Augustinians, the Franciscans, and so many others.
Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples arrives in Vietnam today for a pastoral visit. After accompanying the Holy Father in his apostolic visit to Sri Lanka and the Philippines, the Prefect of the Congregation will go to Vietnam, accepting the invitation of the Episcopal Conference, where he will have several meetings, from north to south, with Bishops, priests, religious men and women, seminarians and people of God.
Pope Francis announced, at the end of today's Angelus, that on 14 February 2015, feast of St. Valentine, a consistory will be held for the creation of twenty new cardinals – fifteen electors and five non-electors – originating from fourteen countries from all over the world, demonstrating “an indissoluble bond between the Church of Rome and the particular Churches present throughout the world”.
